music: september 26
solid, melting, liquid, gas, plasma – and a month of ambient and club
solid
showing up in
sober symmetry,
stiff moves over
slow grooves,
sharp narrator and
structured self.
melting
syncopation
causing friction,
offbeat
onset,
hairline cracks
and bending backs,
balance under
pressure,
first
waves?
liquid
snake hips,
gliding limbs,
warm currents,
every body
one body,
collective
attention
in laminar
glow.
gas
chaos
and turbulent
flow,
breakbeat
braindance,
scattered
swirls,
free will
in free
fall.
plasma
looking for
the looker,
no centre,
no ______
stage,
distant
t
t
touch,
entangled space,
telepathic

Here is my listening journal for September, all tracks on Spotify.
Still
- Album: Eletun Selona – Infinita Series (grainy ambient intro transitioning into dubbier techno, on the calmer and minimalistic side, very atmospheric, at times melancholic; got compared to Prince of Denmark online; fav tracks towards the middle section: Intint, Iimoas)
- Album: Lb Honne – present future / here there (ethereal, introspective ambient house, floating pads, dreamy; also Prince of Denmark vibes with looping vocals over melancholic deep house; very cool release, found it through St. Odes, which put out R.O.W.S. from July; fav tracks: Musium, Sky Funk)
- Album: Finn Streuper – What It's Like to Be a Bat (soft and spacey ambient jazz, totally adjacent to Alice Coltrane and Nala Sinephro; the Thomas Nagel reference alone caught my attention, consciousness is on my mind a lot this year; thanks S.S.)
- Album: Jonny Nash – Eden (I discovered Jonny Nash via his beautiful single Smoke Rings in April and spent some time going through his music; Eden is slow and spacious ambient, a little (too much) new age / fourth world vibe, plus gamelan – very timely listening with Jon Hassell's posthumous album out now; fav tracks: Agape, Police Bribe, Ding Repair)
- Album: Jonny Nash – Point of Entry (guitar-based ambient, post-rock, layered acoustic and electric guitars with lots of delay and reverb; mellow and bittersweet; probably my fav Jonny Nash so far)
- EP: Number One – Overview (hazy, floating, relaxed ambient-adjacent house; fav tracks: Motion, Overview)
- Album: Le Motel – Pozo de Agua (liquid ambient, meaning lots of water sounds, waves, streams, drops; what sounds like birdsong; peaceful and playful at the same time; fav tracks: Caracol, Mangrove)
- Album: Actress – Radical Frame (ambient IDM + outsider house? surreal, cryptic and weird (in a good way); Live By You is a cool self-destructing track (I've been enjoying bitcrusher and redux effects recently), and the second half is also nice with hazy vocals and keys; fav tracks: Overchord, Withending, Paris, Sheets)
Going
- Track: Leod – Untitled 15 (number 15 in his Untitled series, lots of loops, chunky and bouncy; btw Leod also mastered Gold Panda's TON UP, which makes sense)
- EP: Carré – Citrine ("sexy dubstep", rolling, syncopated, somewhat trancey, somewhat grimey?; fav tracks: Sense of Place, Static)
- EP: Ploy – Glizzy (swinging, sweaty, rolling house, punchy, with sighing voice chops; fav track: Yesterday Now Tomorrow)
- Track: Mike D – Switch Up (glitchy, experimental, breaky hip hop with distorted vocals; I grew up with the Beastie Boys sound, so this was a nice surprise – my fav track from Mike D's new solo album Thank You, sounds like a Beastie Boys record with modern production)
- Track: Doctor Jeep – Dia De Los Muertos (140 dubstep + wild, funky hand drums + dancehall vocals)
Strong
September was difficult, and I'm happy it's over. Since this is basically a friends and family newsletter (at this stage), let me just say here, for you and for posterity: thank you for being there! <3
